  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Food coloring optional, for decoration

Instructions
 

  • Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Mix in vanilla extract.
  • Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until smooth.
  • Step 2: Bake the Cake
  • Pour batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  • Step 3: Prepare the Buttercream Frosting
  • Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in vanilla extract and cream/milk until fluffy.
  • Add food coloring if desired.
  • Step 4: Assemble and Decorate
  • Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting evenly.
  • Add the second layer and frost the entire cake. Smooth with an offset spatula.
  • Decorate with sprinkles, fruit, or a heartfelt message.

Notes

For extra moisture, brush cake layers with simple syrup (equal parts sugar & water).
Make it chocolate by substituting ½ cup flour with cocoa powder.
Dairy-free version: Use vegan butter and almond milk.
