Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper or cooking spray
  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rubber spatula
  • Whisk
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips plus extra for topping, if desired

Instructions

  • Preheat & Prep – Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
  • Mix Wet Ingredients – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Make the Dough – Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Bake – Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top if desired. Bake for 22-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool & Serve – Let the bars cool in the pan for about 20 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice into bars and enjoy!

For extra chewiness, slightly underbake the bars and let them finish setting as they cool.
