Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups 240g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup 55g unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 to 1½ cups 100–150g sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • cup 160ml whole milk (plus 1–2 tbsp extra if needed)
  • 1 egg beaten (optional, for glaze)
  • Optional add-ins:
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tbsp chopped chives or herbs
  • ¼ cup chopped jalapeños for a spicy version

Instructions
 

  • Preheat Air Fryer to 350°F (180°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add cold butter and rub into the flour with your fingers or pastry cutter until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Stir in grated cheese and optional add-ins if using.
  • Gradually add milk, mixing gently to form a soft dough. Add a little more milk if dry.
  • On a floured surface, lightly pat the dough to ¾-inch thickness. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter.
  • Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Place scones inside with ½ inch of space between them.
  • Brush tops with beaten egg or milk for a golden finish.
  • Air fry at 350°F (180°C) for 10–12 minutes, until golden brown and firm to the touch.
  • Let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

Cheese Tip: Use sharp cheddar for bold flavor, or try a mix of cheddar and parmesan.
Storage: Store in an airtight container for 2 days at room temp or freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheating: Air fry at 320°F (160°C) for 3–5 minutes to restore crispness.
